Here is a fine set of early pine stenciled chairs, circa 1850, in excellent condition. The seats are a single plank with old red paint showing underneath. The sage green paint with mustard highlights was surely added at a later time, and the artwork on the back is outstanding. There are 2 country scenes with a folk art flavor painted in an oval shape on the chair backs. Each of the scenes shows a sailing vessel in the distance and red roofed cottage on the shore. The arrow back style of these chairs adds strength and style, and we have done only re-gluing, but no alterations to these chairs. They are ready to use and add charm your home or cottage.
